In spring 2011, the
Belgian model fell hard and injured her left knee running through the airport
to catch her flight to Italy. She was booked for a photo shooting in Milan.
In sense of duty, the
23 year old boarded the plane and hoped it will get better. But when landed in
Milan, walking was very painful and she decided to take a taxi to the next
hospital. The model thought as worst case they treat it with pain killers and give
her crutches. But on top of that, the physicians put a thick cast around her
knee.
"I wasn't in the
hospital long and went straight to the job afterwards," she remembered.
People on the set were not amused as they saw her with cast and crutches.
"Somehow, the photographer and stylist made my cast part of the
story." Giampaolo Sgura photographed her together with six top models in
high heels. It was a production for the ANTIDOTE Magazine The fall’s issue
2011 of this French bi-annual magazine was all about sexy shoes: sky-high
heels, killer boots, stilettos and others.
Hanne Gaby Odiele made
her debut on the international runways in 2005. In December 2006, she was hit
by a car in New York that run through a red light. The impact of the crash was
so severe, that the model ended up with two broken legs and other fractures.
She was left bedridden for several months and had multiple surgeries. After
intense physical therapy, she was back on the runway in the end of 2007,
walking again for Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada. "My career and my walk
have only become better after that", she remembers. "So I'm feeling
like this accident now can only make my walk more fierce."
